This is sometimes called 'Frequency-shifted Auditory Feedback' or FAF. And/or it could be with a slight change in pitch. This type is called 'Delayed Auditory Feedback' or DAF. One of them plays your voice back with a tiny delay, a bit like hearing an echo on a phoneline. It alters what you hear in a few different ways. They use a technology called 'Altered Auditory Feedback' or AAF. ![]() Apps and devices aim to replicate that experience. It's a phenomenon called the 'choral effect'. People who stammer often find they're more fluent when they talk in unison with others. Essentially it sounds like you're speaking along with someone else. As you speak, they play your voice back to you through headphones or a Bluetooth earpiece. Most apps and devices on the market aim to increase fluency and reduce stammering. Here we explain what they do and how effective they are. There's a range of apps and devices that can help with stammering. Learn about the different tech options available to help with stammering. For example: meeting -Zoom to search for content containing 'meeting' but not 'Zoom'. You can exclude additional keywords by adding a minus character before them. For example: help OR advice OR support to find content with at least one of those three words. To be less specific, use OR (upper case) between the keywords. Use speech marks to search for an exact phrase. The site search looks for content that contains all of the exact, case-insensitive keywords that you specify, that have at least 3 letters.
